Ice-Cream Sandwich for HTC Desire HD

HTC’s Desire HC smartphone won’t be getting an Ice-Cream Sandwich update after all. HTC made the announcement on their blog, saying,
After extensive testing, we’ve determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.

Best consumer experience aside, it can’t be denied that while Android’s 4.1 version Jelly Bean is now out, most devices Android don’t even have Ice-Cream Sandwich on their smartphones.
According to Android’s latest developer data, a mere 10 percent of Android devices are running Android 4.0, also known as Ice-Cream Sandwich. You can view the detailed data here.
Gingerbread still leads the Android army with 63.6 percent devices running Gingerbread versions 2.3.3 to 2.3.7. Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) which was announced last year in October has around 10.7 percent devices for the 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 version.
Android’s biggest problem still remains a fragmented user experience. Unlike Apple’s iOS updates which are rolled out to almost all its latest devices, with Android getting an Ice-Cream is much, much harder.
Hopefully Ice-Cream Sandwich will be rolled to a lot more smartphones sooner. As far as Jelly Bean goes, users will have to wait and watch.
